Arsenal and Newcastle fans to unite in joint protests ahead of opening Premier League fixture

Newcastle United and Arsenal fans have taken to social media to call on each other to join them in a joint protest against both club's owners during the opening Premier League game at St James' Park in August.

Both sets of fans have become disillusioned with the way that there clubs are being run by the people in power, resulting in protests against the owners.

Prominent Arsenal groups united on Monday to let their feelings known with an open letter to owner Stan Kroenke along with the hashtag #WeCareDoYou.

"Arsenal are at a crossroads. Things need to change," the letter read. "It is sad that an institution like Arsenal FC has such passive ownership. All of us want to see a clear sense of purpose and direction.

"KSE should start by being more open and accountable and explain how they intend to achieve the goal of winning the game's major trophies."

Following the release of the open letter to the owners, Stan Kroenke's son Josh, has replied to fans with his own letter.

"We respectfully disagree about our club being at a crossroads and that things need to change because so much change has recently occurred." Read the reply.

"Over the past year we have turned the page from our traditional model of football operations that included a Manager and CEO, to a new chapter of Arsenal Football Club that is led by a Head of Football and Managing Director. Since their appointments and that of Unai Emery as our Head Coach we have continued working to develop a modern infrastructure, designed to move us forward.  This will take time to play out, but this was always going to be the case after such a long period of time operating under a different model."

Newcastle fans have been unhappy with owner Mike Ashley for some time, and the disillusionment around the club's progress has only intensified in recent weeks thanks to the departure of manager Rafa Benitez and the sale of Ayoze Perez to Leicester City.

Ahead of the Premier League opener both Newcastle and Arsenal fans are calling on the support of each other in order to form a joint protest against how both clubs are being operated.

"Both our clubs are in disarray and change is needed", on tweet from a Newcastle supporter says. "If we stand side by side together, outside the ground, we can send out a very strong message." Reads the Arsenal tweet in a call for togetherness.

The two clubs meet at St James' Park in the teams' Premier League opener on Sunday August 11th at 2pm.
