Arsenal and Mikel Arteta warned of Eddie Howe impact as tight match tipped against Newcastle

Newcastle will arrive at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday still looking for their first win of the season, but Arsenal will be no pushovers.

Following their 4-0 defeat to Liverpool, Mikel Arteta will be looking for a big response from his side in what will be Eddie Howe's first game in charge as the Magpies' manager.

A positive Covid test meant the former Bournemouth boss missed the 3-3 draw with Brentford at St. James' Park but a win away to top-six chasing Arsenal would be a nice way to announce his arrival.

Pundits have been having their say on how they see the match going and it makes for pleasant reading for Arsenal fans, however. Read all the latest predictions below.

Paul Merson

Paul Merson is not worried about any new manager bounce from Arsenal's weekend opponents, predicting a comfortable 3-0 win for his old side.

"I would expect Arsenal to get back on the horse against Newcastle. They proved that they’re flat-track bullies last weekend," he told Sportskeeda.

"Newcastle didn't get a particularly great result against Brentford the other day, but they did have a good game.

"Arsenal were on a 10-game unbeaten streak before Liverpool ended their purple patch. Newcastle showed signs of improvement against Brentford but will find it difficult to keep Arsenal at bay."

Michael Owen

Arsenal may have been convincingly beaten by Liverpool but Michael Owen is also backing them to rebound with three points and a 2-1 win.

"Before that match, the Gunners were going along nicely," he wrote in his BetVictor blog.

"They look like a team that will do fine against sides outside of the top six, but at the moment, lack that extra bit of quality against the bigger sides.

"Eddie Howe will be back in the dugout after testing negative, so that could provide a much needed shot in the arm for his side. This could be closer than the league table suggests, although I think the home side will edge it."
