Arsenal and Mikel Arteta suffer transfer blow as Orkun Kokcu signs new Feyenoord deal

Arsenal have missed out on Orkun Kokcu after he signed an extension with Feyenoord.

The 19-year-old attacking-midfielder, who is considered as one of the most promising talents emerging in European football, has been heavily linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium over the last few months.

Kokcu, though only a youngster, has been making all of the right noises in the Eredivisie this season, racking up 22 league appearances, scoring two goals and creating four assists, which is an impressive return for someone of such a tender age.

"It doesn’t really matter to me, frankly. My father and my agent are busy with that," Kokcu told RTV Rijnmond when asked about the speculation around his future recently.

"I try to isolate myself from that. That works fine. Fortunately, I am a footballer and not an agent.

"I want to make the best of it next season and want to be as fit as possible when the competition starts again.

"For now I’m only working with Feyenoord. I have a contract until 2023, so I’m not in a hurry. When the moment arrives and I feel good about it, we’ll see."

But the 19-year-old has now put an end to any speculation linking him with a move away this summer by penning a new five-year deal with the Dutch side.

"Feyenoord has reached an agreement in principle with Orkun Kökcü about a longer stay in De Kuip,” a statement on the Feyenoord website read.

"The talented midfielder will soon sign a new contract, which will bind him to the club until July 1, 2025. Kökcü's current commitment ran until 2023."
