Arsenal and Mikel Arteta sent Ainsley Maitland-Niles transfer warning

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is being tipped to look for a move away from Arsenal at the end of the season.

The England international has been in and out of the side under Mikel Arteta so far this term.

The 23-year-old has been restricted to only four starts in the 2020-21 Premier League campaign to date.

Maitland-Niles was linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers during the summer transfer window but remained at the Emirates to fight for his place.

However, former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell reckons the versatile wide man could seek a transfer next summer if things continue the way they are.

“I think he will pursue an exit in the summer," Campbell told Football Insider.

“Although he loves the club, he is an England international now – he has to play football.

“There is no point loving the club and being a bit-part player. You have proven you can do it on numerous occasions, you are a full England international and you are on the bench…

“That is not going to last.”

Maitland-Niles - who has been on the bench for the past couple of matches - has five senior England caps to his name, having made his debut against Denmark in the Nations League in September.

Speaking after Arsenal's 4-1 victory over Rapid Vienna in the Europa League at the start of December, Arteta said: "The great thing with Ainsley is that he can fill various positions and that’s a great thing to have around the squad.

"He’s played on the left as a wing back, he’s played on the right, he’s played as a holding midfielder, he can play as an attacking midfielder.

"And again, the sort of performance (against Rapid Vienna) helps, and he has a chance to play like everybody else."
