Arsenal have reportedly refused to release Gabriel Martinelli for international duty next month.
The Gunners wonderkid had been rewarded for a promising start to life in England with a call-up to the Brazil squad for next month's pre-Olympic tournament in Colombia.
This would have resulted in the teenager missing up to five games across all competitions.
The games Gabriel Martinelli could have missed
Arsenal vs Sheffield United - January 18
Chelsea vs Arsenal - January 21
FA Cup Fifth Round - January 25
Burnley vs Arsenal - February 1
Arsenal vs Newcastle February 8
However, Gunners supporters can rest easy as Globoesporte claim that Martinelli is one of several European based players who will not be travelling to Colombia.
Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz was the only other Premier League player named in André Jardine's initial squad before he was forced to make changes.
The reason the Gunners have been able to refuse Brazil permission to name Martinelli in their squad is because it is optional for teams to do so for nations competing in the Pre-Olympic.
This is also due to the tournament falling outside of the usual international window.
With that said, Martinelli is currently sidelined by an injury.
The 18-year-old missed the Boxing Day clash against Bournemouth with a tight hamstring.
And it remains to be seen if he will be fit enough to feature against Chelsea on Sunday.
