Arsenal and Mikel Arteta handed update on £13m gamble to find William Saliba's perfect partner

Stade de Reims president Jean-Pierre Caillot admits Arsenal could be Axel Disasi's next club.

The centre-back has been linked with a £13m move to the Gunners across recent weeks with Mikel Arteta reportedly looking to sign a centre-back this summer.

And Disasi may just be the man they look to, but Arsenal are not alone in the chase for the Frenchman with Reims president Caillot suggesting there is interest from Spain, Germany, Italy and elsewhere in the Premier League.

"I'm not surprised by Sevilla's interest," he told ABCdeSevilla. "We know that they have been watching it all year round. They know him well. I know the interest of Sevilla, of course.

"There are conversations, logically. But it will not be easy.

"At this time, and if there is nothing new, the player is closer to the Premier League. Can it be Arsenal? Can be.

"But I am not saying more about it because it is confidential.

"They have called us from Germany; from Italy, too. In the Premier League there are several clubs that want hum.

"And in Spain, as well as Seville, there are some more."

Caillot also gave a glowing review of Disasi.

"He has exploded here. He is only 22 years old," he added. "He is very strong and technically he is good.

"Throughout the season we have had scouts. Disasi has undoubtedly been key to making us the team with the fewest goals."

Reims conceded just 21 goals in 28 games this season before the French season was cancelled.

Disasi played in all but one of those games and he could be the perfect partner for William Saliba who will start his Arsenal career next season after spending the campaign on loan at Saint-Etienne.
