Arsenal and Mikel Arteta handed transfer boost in attempts to sign La Liga midfielder

Real Madrid loanee Dani Ceballos has hinted at a permanent exit from the Santiago Bernabeu as he approaches the end of his loan stint with Arsenal.

The Spain international signed on a season-long loan last summer and, having missed a large chunk of the season due to injury, caught the eye of Mikel Arteta prior to the Premier League's suspension.

Arsenal's chances of landing the highly-rated midfielder on a permanent deal were not seen as strong earlier this year but the coronavirus crisis may have changed the picture.

James Benge Arsenal Q&A

With the European Championship and Tokyo Olympics moved to next summer, Ceballos is keen on regular football before both tournaments - which may not be on the cards with Real Madrid.

"My objective is to play in the European Championship and Olympic Games, and when they are happening you need to find a team where you feel important," Ceballos told Canal Sur.

"The future is far away, we can't predict what will happen in a month and a half.

"Now we are focused on the postponed game against Manchester City on the 17th."

Ceballos has made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners this season, scoring his only goal in the Europa League victory over Standard Liege.
