Arsenal and Mikel Arteta handed massive boost ahead of Burnley trip

Arsenal have been handed a welcome boost ahead of Sunday's Premier League encounter against Burnley.

The two teams are separated by three places but are level on points in the table and will go into the game at Turf Moor on the back of contrasting results in the FA Cup fourth round last weekend.

The Clarets were beaten 2-1 at home by Norwich City, while the Gunners won by that exact scoreline against Bournemouth on Monday night at the Vitality Stadium.

2-1 was also the score when the two teams met in the reverse fixture at the Emirates Stadium on the second weekend of the new Premier League season all the way back in August.

A repeat is crucial for the north London outfit if they're to mount a serious challenge for a top four spot and will be boosted by the fact they've won the last 11 meetings against Burnley across all competitions.

And there's good news on the for the visitors ahead of the game at Turf Moor.

Leading scorer and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is available after missing games against Sheffield United, Chelsea and Bournemouth through suspension after being shown a straight red card in the 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace last month.

David Luiz also available after serving his one-game ban after being sent-off at Stamford Bridge and Arteta is delighted to have both players in contention to start against Clarets.

"We missed them," the Spaniard said in his pre-match press conference. "It's good to have top players back in the squad, they've been training well so we have more bodies available."

Aubameyang's return is a massive boost to Arteta as his side failed to win a league game in the absence of the 30-year-old and whilst they didn't lose, victories are important in the top-four race.

In addition, the Gunners no.14 has an outstanding record against Burnley which could come in handy.

An arrival in north London two years ago, Aubameyang has faced the Clarets four times as an Arsenal and has found the back of net seven times - including the winner in August.

On his only visit to Turf Moor he netted twice in a 3-1 win on the final day of last season.

This brilliant record could be what earns Aubameyang a recall to the starting line-up, but at the expense of Gabriel Martinelli or Alexandre Lacazette.
