Arsenal and Mikel Arteta handed major Thomas Partey injury boost ahead of Liverpool clash

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is available for his side’s trip to Liverpool on Saturday.

The Gunners suffered a blow ahead of their match with Watford before the international break when it was revealed that the 28-year-old would miss out with a groin injury.

Despite the knock, Partey still received a call up to the Ghanaian national team but he eventually decided to stay and work on his fitness.

It was reported earlier in the week that the north Londoners were hopeful of his return ahead of the weekend, and now the club have confirmed that he is among the players fit to feature against Jurgen Klopp's side.

Prior to the 1-0 win over the Hornets, Partey had been a constant fixture in Arteta's line-up, starting the previous six games.

He hasn't had the best of luck with injuries since arriving at the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2020, but he's proven that he's an important part of the Gunners' rebuild and Arsenal fans will be glad about his return.

There's also good news for his midfield partner, Granit Xhaka.

The Switzerland international has been out since suffering a knee injury in the 3-1 victory over Spurs in September.

He's not expected to play a part for the Gunners for a long while yet but is back running outside again and is expected to be in full training by January.

The news of Partey's and Xhaka's improvement is obviously welcomed, and with Arsenal in such impressive form of late, it comes at a good time too.

Arteta's side are unbeaten in their last 10 games and they'll be hoping that run stretches to 11 as they look to avoid defeat at the weekend.
