Arsenal and Mikel Arteta handed £22m transfer boost as Emiliano Martinez 'mistake' is revealed

Here's all the news from around the Emirates Stadium over the past 24 hours.

Wenger's Vardy masterplan

In the summer of 2016, Arsenal reportedly bid £20m for Jamie Vardy, only for the England international to reject the opportunity to leave Leicester City.

At the time, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was on the market for an alternative to Olivier Giroud that would have complimented Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in attack.

However, there were suggestions that Vardy would have struggled if he completed a mobe due to the contrast in playing styles with the Gunners a possession-based team while the Foxes relied on the counter-attack.

But, Wenger who was on punditry duty for beIN Sports as Vardy netted in a 3-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday, revealed his masterplan on the striker he failed to sign almost five years ago.

"We had more of the ball, yes," Wenger added. "I think around the box the timing of his runs and he finds the space to go. When you see the big strikers, they are on the move when others stand still in the box and he has that.

"They read earlier than others, they anticipate better, they understand quicker than other people."

£22m Ceballos asking price

Arsenal have been told how much it will cost to sign Dani Ceballos permanently.

The midfielder is currently on his second loan spell at the Gunners, returning for another year after a successful 2019/20 campaign at the Emirates Stadium.

The 24-year-old has been less favoured this season amid increased competition in the Arsenal midfield, starting 10 of Arsenal's 23 Premier League outings so far.

Ceballos has spoken about his desire to return to Real Madrid, but if Arsenal and Mikel Arteta want to sign him permanently, they will have to pay £22million, according to La Razon.

According to the report, Real Madrid are willing to part ways with Ceballos, who signed from Real Betis for just under £15million in 2017, in order to increase their budget this summer.

Arsenal's 'mistake' with Martinez

Emiliano Martinez was in action for Aston Villa on Saturday and kept yet another clean sheet in a goalless draw away at Brighton and Hove Albion.

It's now 12 shutouts in the Premier League for the former Arsenal keeper and many rival supporters have taken to social media to heap suggest the Gunners made a mistake by selling the Argentine.

Take a look at some of the responses on Twitter...
