Arsenal and Manchester United fans clash over Premier League announcement

A huge debate has been sparked among football fans after the Premier League confirmed the launch of an official Hall of Fame.

Earlier today, the Premier League confirmed that the first two inductees to be recognised and celebrated for their exceptional skill and talent will be revealed on Thursday, March 19.

A shortlist of nominees will also be announced at the same time, with fans invited to vote to help select the additional former players to join the Premier League Hall of Fame 2020.

There is no indication as yet as to who the first two inductees will be, but fans of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham will be among those hoping that at least one of their former players will be in the running.

And fans of Arsenal and Manchester United have been quick to put their suggestions forward for who should be the first two players inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is one of the names being discussed by Gunners fans and supporters of rival clubs as well, along with Newcastle United hero Alan Shearer, while several former Manchester United players have also been put forward by fans as suggestions, including Ryan Giggs, Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Here's what some Arsenal and Manchester United fans have been saying on social media.

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said: “Since 1992, the Premier League has been home to world-class players who have defined generations and provided us with compelling football season after season.

“A place in the Premier League Hall of Fame is reserved for the very best. It will be an occasion for our fans around the world to look back over the years and help us celebrate some truly exceptional playing careers.”

To be eligible for the Premier League Hall of Fame, players must be retired and only a player’s Premier League career is considered in their candidacy.
