Arsenal and Manchester United 'battling to sign Premier League midfielder'

Manchester United and Arsenal are both keen on completing a deal for Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina this summer.

The Gabon international is being chased by a host of clubs from across Europe, including the two Premier League giants.

The 25-year-old joined the Saints from Juventus two years ago, but Lemina has been left out of his club's squad for their pre-season tour to Austria after reportedly telling manager Ralph Hassenhuttl that he wants to leave.

And the Daily Mail claim that both United and the Gunners are eager to sign the midfielder in the coming weeks, with Leicester and Serie A side Atalanta also interested.

Following the end of last season, Hassenhuttl put the 25-year-old up for sale after the Gabon international endured an up-and-down season with the Saints.

Injuries have prevented the former Marseille man from nailing down a starting sport at St Mary's Stadium, with Lemina making just 52 appearances in all competitions following his £18m switch two years ago.

With boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer overhauling his squad at Old Trafford this summer, Lemina could add some steel to United's midfield.

Arsenal, meanwhile, may be hoping Lemina's Gabon team-mate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can persuade him to move to the Emirates Stadium.

Though Leicester have also been linked, they may be unlikely to make a move after wrapping up a club-record deal to sign Youri Tielemans from Monaco for £40m on Monday.

And Atalanta are eager to add talent to their squad after qualifying for the Champions League group stages after coming fourth in Serie A last term.

Any club that wants to sign Lemina this summer may have to part with £25m in order to bring the ex-Juventus man to their club.

The 25-year-old has been noted for his ability to instigate attacking moves soon after winning possession back for his side.
