Arsenal and Man Utd on red alert with Barcelona 'open to Samuel Umtiti transfer'

Barcelona are reportedly open to offers for defender Samuel Umtiti this month.

Umtiti, 26, has started just four La Liga matches this term with Ernesto Valverde often preferring Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet in central defence.

The Frenchman has also had injury problems but accepts he is now third choice and could look to move on this month.

Arsenal and Manchester United have both been linked with Umtiti in the past and would likely be able to offer him immediate first-team football.

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is also believed to be an admirer of the World Cup winner, reports Spanish publication El Desmarque.

Arsenal are eager to bring in defensive reinforcements this month after a serious injury to Calum Chambers.

Sokratis and David Luiz have often struggled too and RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano has emerged as a possible target.

But the Gunners are likely to only be able to pursue loan deals and that could suit Barcelona as they look to find potential suitors for Umtiti.

Tottenham boss Mourinho is keen to overhaul his squad and has not been impressed by their defensive deficiencies during his short tenure.

Toby Alderweireld has recently signed a new contract but Jan Vertonghen will be 33 in April and Spurs need a long-term replacement.

There is also interest from United although Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have been a solid partnership so far this term.

Maguire is set for a spell on the sidelines with a hip problem, with Phil Jones struggling in central defence in the Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to rivals City.

That could lead to boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pursuing a loan deal, with Umtiti a reasonable target.
