Arsenal and Man Utd 'hold transfer talks' with Real Madrid over midfield star

Arsenal and Manchester United are reported to have held talks over signing Real Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente .

Both clubs are looking to strengthen their squads over the summer, and are thought to be interested in the 24-year-old.

The versatile Llorente can play as a holding midfielder or centre-back.

But he has struggled for opportunities at Real Madrid despite having impressed while on loan at Alaves during the 2016-7 season.

And in the week when English clubs have dominated, securing all four spots in the Champions League and Europa League finals, the midfielder is said to be open to a transfer to the Premier League.

AS claim United and Arsenal have made approaches over Llorente - but the Spanish publication also says Real Madrid are only likely to sell if the deal includes a buy-back option, as with the previous transfers of Alvaro Morata and Mariano.

United boss Solskjaer looks set to be given funds to revamp his ailing squad, and will bring in some cash from a clearout of the players who are holding the club back. So, Real's insistence on a buy-back clause may cause the Red Devils to look elsewhere.

But Europa League finalists Arsenal could be more tempted, with the midfielder potentially available for as little as £14million.

However, either club would face competition from the likes of Atlético Madrid , Roma and Sevilla .

Meanwhile, Solskjaer has turned to youth ahead of United's final game of the season.

United missed out on a Champions League spot with last Sunday's abject 1-1 draw at Huddersfield , with the Red Devils consigned to the Europa League next season.

Solskjar has been frustrated by the performances and attitude of many of his established stars and responded by promoting six youth players to first-team training this week.

Angel Gomes, Dylan Levitt, Arnau Puigmal, Mason Greenwood, James Garner and Tahith Chong all trained with the first-team ahead of Sunday's final game of the season against Cardiff at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer, whose first game in charge of United was a 5-1 win over his former club Cardiff, is likely to use Sunday's season finale to give the youngsters a chance to show what they can do ahead of next season.
