Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres is keeping his cards close to his chest as he courts interest from a crop of Premier League sides.
The 26-year-old Swede has scored an impressive 47 goals in 46 appearances this season, demanding transfer interest from Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United as he establishes himself as one of Europe’s best in his position. Ruben Amorim reportedly asked United to sign him in January, but decided not to trigger his £80million release clause.
He was quizzed as to his preffered destination this week, but has given little away. Speaking on Friday night after netting his sixth hat-trick of the season against Moreirense to tighten Sporting’s grip on the Primeira Liga top spot, he was asked whether he would be allowed to leave this season.
He offered a coy response: “No one can predict what will happen, we enjoy the moment.”
The interviewer pried, asking whether he liked London, but Gyokeres was similarly avoidant in his response.
He simply said: “I like Lisbon.”
The Sun has reported that, after deciding to stay with Lisbon in January, the player has vmade a gentlemen’s agreement with the club in which he will be allowed to leave for as little as £63m this summer.
Asked about the terms on Friday, Gyokeres declined to comment: “I can’t say anything about that.”
Manchester City and Liverpool have also been tipped as potential destinations for the Swede, who is reportedly most interested in continuing to play in the Champions League.
He would slot in well at Arsenal, who have been forced by injuries to play central midfielder Mikel Merino as a makeshift striker in recent weeks. The Gunners are also reported to be interested in Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike, and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
