Arsenal and Man City miss out on Brazilian wonderkid Reinier as Real Madrid seal transfer

Real Madrid have completed the £25m signing of Brazilian wonderkid Reinier Jesus.

Reinier, 18, had emerged as a target for a host of top clubs across Europe after impressing at Flamengo.

Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City , Real Madrid and Juventus were all interested while Everton were believed to have held talks over a possible January deal for the midfielder.

It was even suggested Arsenal had held talks with his father late last year but Real Madrid have completed a deal to take him to the Bernabeu.

Reinier turned 18 on Sunday and Real and Flamengo were keen to keep the deal under wraps before his birthday amid fears of a possible prope from FIFA.

The teenager underwent a medical last week with Real believed to be paying around £25m for his signature.

Real have agreed a six-and-a-half year deal with Reinier, keeping him at the club until 2026.

Reinier is currently away with Brazil's Under-23 squad at the pre-Olympic tournament and came off the bench in the win over Peru on Monday.

He will then link up with Real's Castilla side as he bids to catch the eye of Zinedine Zidane.

Real have completed deals for a number of young Brazilian players in recent years as they tap into the South American market.

Vinicius Junior moved to the Bernabeu in 2018 from Flamengo and was followed by countryman Rodrygo last summer.

Zinedine Zidane's side are currently level with Barcelona at the top of La Liga.
