Arsenal and Edu told £20m transfer gamble has paid off but fans sent warning over harsh reality

Former Arsenal full-back Lauren believes new signing Takehiro Tomiyasu has enjoyed a "good start" at the Emirates Stadium but has sent a warning to the club's fanbase.

The Japan international, who signed for around £20million on deadline day in the summer transfer window last month, has started both of the Gunners ' last two matches against Norwich City and Burnley, helping his new side keep two clean sheets in back-to-back 1-0 victories.

According to Lauren, the 22-year-old full-back has settled in well at Arsenal, but has warned supporters that they may need to be patient with their latest signing as he settles into life in the Premier League.

Speaking to BonusFinder, the former Gunners defender said: “I believe he has had a good start at Arsenal, he had some nice touches, and he nearly scored a goal when he overlapped on the right flank against Norwich.

“I think he's a good addition, but we have to be patient because he has only just arrived at the club, so he needs time to adapt.

“The Premier League is not an easy league to come into and we all know that he will need time to adapt to a new culture, a new club and a new system.

“He looks comfortable with the ball and looks like he understands how to play in that back line, but he needs time to settle.

“So far, he has looked very good against Norwich and Burnley, so hopefully he can continue to improve.”

Lauren also went on to speak about the competition for places in the Arsenal squad right now, and specifically mentioned the right-back position at the club.

Hector Bellerin left the Gunners last month to join Real Betis, with Mikel Arteta now having Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Calum Chambers and Cedric Soares to use on the right side of defence, as well as Tomiyasu.

“I think there's a lot of solid competition now and the team will benefit from this competition," Lauren said on the right-back spot at the Emirates.

“If these players raise their levels and be as good as everyone expects them to be, then it will be an interesting season in that right-back position.”

Arsenal are back in action on Wednesday evening as they take on AFC Wimbledon in north London in the Carabao Cup before they take on fierce rivals Tottenham on Sunday afternoon in a huge Premier League encounter.
