Arsenal and Chelsea icon agrees with Roy Keane on Declan Rice price tag as transfer battle brews

William Gallas has agreed with Roy Keane that Declan Rice is not worth £100million. The West Ham captain has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal and Chelsea for some time now as he continues to impress.

Despite the arrival of Jorginho from Chelsea on deadline day, football.london understands that the Gunners still hold a strong interest in the 24-year-old. However, it's also understood that Rice remains a key target for the Blues as well.

The England international is under contract at the London Stadium until 2024, with David Moyes' side holding the option to extend his future by a further year. With Rice tied down to a reasonably long-term deal, the Hammers appear confident that the midfielder will not leave, despite ongoing speculation over his future.

But, if West Ham decide to cash in on Rice then it could take a hefty fee. In an interview with Genting Casino, Gallas claimed that the Englishman is not yet worth £100million and he'll only reach said valuation once he proves himself at 'the big clubs'.

"[Roy] Keane is right, he’s not worth £100 million! That is not his value yet," the former Arsenal and Chelsea defender said. "But it goes back to what I was saying earlier about players who want to get to the top and how they have to be consistent.

"He plays for West Ham and he has had a few great seasons, but he has to go to another level and when you play for the big clubs it is completely different. You are around players who are different, they are at your level or maybe even better.

"You have to adapt. That is why we have to wait to see if he can fit in well at a big club and, then, if he has a great season, his value will go up. So, I agree with Roy Keane."

Last month, Mark Noble spoke out on the prospect of Rice leaving West Ham in the summer. The Hammers' sporting director said: "Dec will always be hailed at West Ham as a fantastic player and such a top, top person.

"But I don’t think anyone begrudges him wanting to go and win things. We just hope he’ll keep performing like he has been over the last month or so.

"Wherever Declan ends up, or however much someone pays for him, whether it’s here or anywhere else, he’s worth every penny."
