Arsenal and Chelsea handed major boost as Tottenham suffer huge injury blow

Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte has confirmed that Son Heung-min has suffered an injury blow ahead of next week's clash against Arsenal.

The stakes are as high as ever for the North London Derby in N17, with both sides competing for a spot in next season's UEFA Champions League.

The Gunners are currently two points ahead of their local rivals in the Premier League table but have played two more matches than the Lilywhites.

Mikel Arteta's side may not have to face one of Spurs' best players, with South Korean international Son picking up an injury during Wednesday night's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

Speaking ahead of this weekend's FA Cup clash against Morecambe, Conte said: "It was a strange situation. Against Chelsea I made two substitutions together, Lucas Moura and Son. Not for injury, their sub, but to try to give them 15 minutes of rest.

"The day after, Son felt a bit of pain in his muscle, in his leg and he had a scan. Now we have to make the right evaluations from the doctors.

"He’s an injury. I don’t know but probably they could stay without training session until the end of this cycle, before the international break."

Son's injury comes at an extremely bad time for Tottenham, who face the Blues in the second leg of their League Cup clash before hosting Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next Sunday.

The Lilywhites face Chelsea again later this month in the league as they travel to Stamford Bridge on January 23.
