Arsenal and Chelsea get £34.4m transfer message from Gabri Veiga in perfect Barcelona audition

Gabri Veiga continued to place his name in the headlines following his performance against Barcelona ahead of a crucial summer for the Celta Vigo star. A superb 2022/23 season in Spain has seen him emerge as one footballs rising talents prompting interest from a whole host of European heavyweights and a departure this summer appears highly likely.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have all been monitoring his situation throughout 2023. Now, with just over a week left until the summer window opens, Chelsea and Newcastle have declared their interest with the latter the best-placed team to sign Veiga, according to Marca.

With Champions League football secured, the Magpies tabled their first bid for the 21-year-old last week which currently has them in pole position to sign him. Negotiations regarding personal terms and bonuses, along with what the buying club can offer, looks set to be crucial as his release clause stands at just €40m (£34.4m).

Every single interested party will almost certainly be able to afford that fee which makes talks on the player's side very important. Prior to the climax of the La Liga season, Veiga had seemingly already proved he could cut it at the elite level, but just in case anyone was unsure he delivered an unbelievable performance amid the most intense circumstances.

Celta welcomed champions Barcelona for the final La Liga clash with the possibility they could be relegated. Five other teams were also at the mercy of the drop but a win for Celta was crucial in ensuring they remained in the top flight.

In what was likely his final game for Celta, Veiga scored twice in a 2-1 to keep Celta in La Liga. His first goal came about after Celta won possession high up in the Barcelona half with Veiga slotted through on goal by his team-mate before he placed a calm finish beyond Marc Andre ter Stegen.

For his second goal, Veiga picked up the ball on the right before swinging a delightful cross into the box which looped over ter Stegen and into the back of the net. Away from his goals, Veiga was at the centre of everything good produced by Celta virtually playing as a second striker alongside Haris Seferovic.

Veiga has spent the bulk of the campaign in an advanced midfield role but has proven he can play higher up the pitch with his clear eye for goal and creative nous. That brace meant he ended the season with 11 goals and four assists with most of those contributions coming from midfield.

With Chelsea likely to lose Mason Mount and Granit Xhaka preparing to depart Arsenal, Veiga has sent another reminder he could be the dream replacement for either.
