Arsenal advertise new signing on shirts to buy online before transfer is even announced

Arsenal are taking their sweet time when it comes to announcing the imminent arrival of former Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus.

Fans of the Gunners have been awaiting official confirmation of the switch from the club for days, but there has been little more than radio silence. However, eagle-eyed supports have spotted something notable on the club's online shop.

Using only a phone, fans can currently go onto the website and click a small shirt icon in the bottom corner of the screen which will then guide users to a new page advertising Arsenal's new home shirt for next season.

From there, a drop down bar of personalisation options become available - allowing fans to get either their own name or one of the current crop of Gunners first-team stars. Within that list, right there in black and white reads 'G. Jesus - 9'.

It is quite remarkable that official confirmation of the deal has taken quite this long - especially considering the deal has been reportedly wrapped up for at least five days.

The amount of leaks this particular transfer has been subject to is also alarming from a Gunners perspective, especially as fans obtained footage of Jesus walking around the Emirates Stadium in full Arsenal kit on Thursday clearly fulfilling some kind of media duties.

Gunners supporters can barely contain their excitement given Mikel Arteta has managed to bolster the club's front-line with a four-time Premier League title winner for a fee as relatively low as £45million.

The Arsenal manager knew all about the kind of quality Jesus has on offer from their shared time at the Etihad when Arteta was an assistant coach to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

The Brazilian international is reported to have signed a five-year contract with Arsenal and will become the club's highest earner on a rumoured £250,000 per-week wages. Jesus, as the website shows, will also inherit the number nine shirt at the Emirates - an important number in the club's history.

It has been worn by some incredibly talented forwards from Alan Smith to Nicolas Anelka, though Jesus will be hoping to fare better than the shirt's most recent tenant - Alexandre Lacazette. The Frenchman fell drastically short of the required standard from an Arsenal striker last term and was partly responsible for their Champions League qualification capitulation.

Jesus has been heralded by fans and pundits alike as just the kind of signing Arsenal needed to help them recover from the heartache of the tail-end of last season. Gunners fans will be regularly refreshing their phones hoping for an update as soon as possible.
