Arsenal 5-1 Sunderland player ratings as Broadhead and Pritchard impress, but Hume struggles

Sunderland bowed out of the Carabao Cup as they were well-beaten by Premier League Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Eddie Nketiah scored a hat-trick for the Gunners, while Nicolas Pepe and teenage debutant Charlie Patino added one apiece.

Nathan Broadhead reduced the arrears to 2-1 in the first half before going off injured just before the break, but it was Arsenal who booked their place in the semi-finals of the competition.

Here's how James Hunter rated the Sunderland players

Lee Burge 7

Made a couple of fine saves to keep the score down, but could do little about the goals

Bailey Wright 5

Had a tough night - along with the rest of the defence

Tom Flanagan 5

Might have done better for the fourth goal

Callum Doyle 5

Found it difficult, and should have done more to prevent Nketiah nipping in for his second

Carl Winchester 6

Did OK at right wingback and only a good save from Leno prevented him levelling at 2-2

Elliot Embleton 7

Provided the assist for Broadhead and also hit the woodwork himself

Dan Neil 6

Showed some neat touches in the middle of the park

Lynden Gooch 6

A decent outing at left wingback

Alex Pritchard 7

Sunderland's creative spark, he was at the heart of most of Sunderland's best moves

Ross Stewart 6

Worked hard but got little change from Arsenal's centre-backs

Nathan Broadhead 7

Produced a brilliant finish for the goal and always looked a threat until injury cut short his evening

Subs

Denver Hume 5

For Broadhead 45+2mins. Still coming back from injury, but he found Pepe too hot to handle

Corry Evans 6

For Gooch 73mins. Eased his way back into action after a month out through injury

Aiden O'Brien 5

For Embleton 73mins. Didn't really affect the game when he came on

Benji Kimpioka N/A

For Stewart 90+3mins.

Not used: Patterson, Cirkin, Xhemajli, Younger, Dunne
