Goals from Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette were enough to see Newcastle United off at The Emirates as Arsenal's took control in the battle for the top four.
United were poor in their first game in 16 days - creating only shot on target as Salomon Rondon forced Bernd Leno into a save.
Ramsey curled into the net after poor defending from United, and while Arsenal had to wait until the 83rd minute to grab a second - a delightful lob from Lacazette - the Magpies never looked like getting back into the game.
The Gunners kept Miguel Almiron and Ayoze Perez quiet - while Rondon was not as influential as usual.
The result leaves United in seven points off the relegation zone with six games left.
