Arrrrr! Legoland to launch 'Year of the Pirate' with new hotel next year

ORLANDO, Fla. _ Swashbuckling kids will have several chances next year to channel their inner pirate at Legoland in Winter Haven.

The kid-friendly theme park announced last week a new initiative for 2020: #VacationLikeaPirate.

It's a hashtag that will help promote its "Year of the Pirate" marketing push, which revolves around the upcoming opening of the five-story, 150-room Pirate Island Hotel, a heavily themed location set for its debut on April 17.

A new water ski show, which will also be themed around the buccaneer life, will debut for three consecutive PirateFest weekends starting on April 18.

The show comes at the end of an eight-year run for Battle for Brickbeard's Bounty, which is the only water ski show on any Legoland property in the world.

The Pirate Island Hotel will be the third on Legoland property, following the on-site Legoland hotel and Legoland Beach Retreat, which sits a few blocks away, across Cypress Gardens Boulevard on Lake Dexter.

The hotels have been part of an effort by Legoland officials to make the 145-acre theme park a multiday destination.
