ArrivaClick suspends services in Liverpool but not elsewhere

The popular on-demand bus service ArrivaClick announced its decision to suspend all of its Liverpool services at the weekend.

The company posted on their Twitter page to say that these are "unprecedented times" and that the safety of staff and customers was "paramount" in making the "difficult decision" to suspend their services.

Responses to the post on their Facebook page show that the Uber-style bus service which currently only runs in two UK cities will be missed.

Sue Barwise posted: "Thank you to the amazing Arriva click drivers in Liverpool. At times in recent weeks, you have been an absolute godsend and I am so grateful. Once this is all over I look forward to using the service again."

Norma Kielty-Crummey said: "Thanks to all at Liverpool Arriva Click. Hope it’s not too long before I see you again."

Another poster, Roger Kinvig, suggested an alternative use for the service, posting: "Should be turned into a service to get nurses to and from work!"

Services in Leicester are still running but with a "reduced number of passengers" at any given time.

The ECHO asked ArrivaClick why they had decided to suspend their services in Liverpool but not elsewhere during the coronavirus outbreak.

An Arriva spokesperson said: "During these unprecedented times, we’re finding that many people are doing the right thing and avoiding unnecessary travel. As a consequence, we’ve temporarily suspended some of our ArrivaClick services in Merseyside.

"We will continue to support our staff and many have now been placed on the Government’s furlough scheme. We will continue to keep our customers informed of the unfolding situation.

"We believe the ArrivaClick model has an important role to play in the future of the UK bus market.

"Customer expectations are changing and digital on-demand services, like ArrivaClick, can offer the convenience of a private taxi with the cost effectiveness of public transport."
