Arriva Cymru bus services to restart as strike suspended after new pay offer for drivers

A strike by Arriva Cymru drivers has been suspended after an improved pay offer.

The five week action started on Sunday - almost wiping out the Arriva bus timetable in North Wales and Chester.

Unite members walked out in a bid to secure the same pay deal given Arriva drivers in the North West of England.

Talks continued this week and this evening Unite said the action was being suspended and Arriva said services would resume tomorrow.

Unite Wales said: "Following talks with @arrivabuswales today, the company have now presented a new and improved pay offer.

"We will therefore be suspending strike action across North Wales and will be balloting our members on the new offer."

An Arriva spokesman said: "Arriva can confirm that its bus operations will resume in North Wales and Chester from tomorrow morning. The announcement comes following further talks with the trade union, Unite this week which led to a suspension of the strike.

"All services are due to run from the first scheduled bus on Friday 19th November, but Arriva warns that early morning services may still experience some disruption as it mobilises its operation overnight.

They added: "This is good news for our customers in North Wales and Chester and we are pleased that on-going discussions this week have seen both parties committed to finding a way forward so that services could resume tomorrow."
