Two men have been arrested after police in Glasgow stopped a 'planned procession' from going ahead.
Cops reportedly 'penned in a crowd' on London Road to prevent a 'procession' from taking place in the east end of the city yesterday, which was arranged by the International Brigades to pay tribute to those who fought against fascism in the Spanish Civil War.
Helicopters were understood to have been circling above the area, and there was believed to have been a hefty police presence across the city in connection with the planned march.
Riot vans were reportedly stationed at locations including Glasgow Green, as officers acting under Section 12 of the Public Order Act 1986 aimed to minimise disruption due to the 'potential impact' of a counter-protest.
Now, the force has confirmed that two men, aged 31 and 40, were arrested in connection with breach of the peace following the events. One arrest was made on Crown Street while another was made at Monteith Row in Calton.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "On Saturday, September 10, 2022, a 31-year-old man was arrested at Monteith Row in Glasgow in connection with breach of the peace.
"A 40-year-old man was arrested at Crown Street in connection with breach of the peace. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
