Arrests made at Coatbridge pub following weekend rammy with punters and police

A number of people were arrested following a weekend incident at a Coatbridge pub.

More than a dozen officers and several police vehicles rushed to the Woodside Bar in Kirkwood on Sunday afternoon in response to “reports of an ongoing disturbance”.

Some eye-witnesses, however, have accused the police of being “heavy-handed”.

One woman, who asked not to be named, told the Advertiser: “All hell broke loose when the police turned up. They were very heavy-handed and had their batons out.

“I understand why they arrived in the first place because a small fight broke out in the pub that was then taken outside.

“There are rumours it was because of the Old Firm game but that’s not true.

“They [police] then just came wading into the pub, acting aggressively and people reacted to it when they began telling everyone to leave. It was very stressful to watch and be part of.”

A spokesperson from Coatbridge police office said: “On March 31, 2019, police attended the Woodside Bar, Mitchell Street, following several reports of an ongoing disturbance. As a result, several persons were arrested and police enquiries continue into the incident whilst working with the premises’ owners.”
