A man who fled from NSW Police after a confrontation involving police officers and about 20 people on the streets of Moruya on Friday, December 4, has been found and charged in relation to the incident.
Another man had already been charged in relation to the same incident.
Police had been attending a report of an attempted break-in at a house in Evans St, Moruya, that night around 8pm. They were trying to make an arrest when they say a large group of people intervened, and one of the offenders deliberately coughed at police.
The fracas became a serious confrontation and police say they were forced to use capsicum spray to protect themselves and disperse the group.
The two men police were attempting to arrest fled the scene, before one returned a short time later and handed himself over.
The 33-year-old man was taken to Batemans Bay Police Station and charged with resisting an officer in execution of duty, wilfully obstructing an officer in execution of duty, escaping police custody, not complying with a noticed direction re spitting/coughing (COVID-19), and assaulting an officer in execution of their duty.
He was granted conditional bail to appear in Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday, January 11 next year.
Following further inquiries, a second 33-year-old man was arrested at a home in Braidwood about 2.20pm on Wednesday.
He was taken to Batemans Bay Police Station and charged with intimidating a police officer during a civil disorder incident, two counts of wilfully obstructing a police officer, breaching an Apprehended Violence Order and malicious damage related to domestic violence.
Inquiries are continuing.
