Arrests for conversion illegal: Jawad

AYODHYA: Senior Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad termed arrests under anti-conversion law as one-sided and illegal as statements of those allegedly converted are not heard.

The cleric was in Faizabad on Thursday to take part in 74 coffins procession of Karbala martyrs. He demanded that police must also record statements of those accused of forceful conversions in presence of their lawyers. “Conversion by force is unacceptable under Sharia.

These controversies are being propped to create communal tension,” said Jawad.
