Arrests follow day of violence in Coatbridge which saw three people rushed to hospital

TWO men and a teenager have been arrested following a shocking day of violence in Coatbridge.

Three victims were rushed to Monklands Hospital with injuries – believed to be stab wounds – after two separate incidents that occurred within hours of each other on Saturday.

Two men were found near Coatbridge police station – one with injuries to his back and the other to his chest – at around 6.55am; both victims were discovered on Whittington Street – one inside a house.

This was followed by a 19-year-old man suffering an “arm injury” during a disturbance on Highcross Avenue shortly after 12.35pm – with witnesses claiming there was “blood everywhere”.

One eyewitness said that police taped off the area and officers started searching the street.

They said: “Police have an area taped off and are searching the street.

“There’s blood everywhere.”

Officers remained at the scene on Whittington Street and two men, aged 21 and 20, were subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the matter, with reports submitted to the procurator fiscal.

A police spokesperson added: “Officers were called after a man was found with injuries to his chest in the Whittington Street area of Coatbridge at around 6.55am on Saturday, January 25; he was taken to hospital for treatment.

“A second man was found with injuries to his back within a property on Whittington Street and was also taken to hospital for treatment.”

A 17-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident on Highcross Avenue and appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court earlier this week.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called to Highcross Avenue in Coatbridge shortly after 12.35pm on Saturday, January 25, following a report of a disturbance.

“A 19-year-old man was found with an arm injury and was taken to Monklands Hospital for treatment.”
