Arrested man on run after escaping from police at Southmead Hospital

Police have launched a manhunt after a man they had arrested escaped while being treated at Southmead Hospital.

Brian McDonagh had been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary but had a head injury and was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

But Bristol Live understands he managed to escape into the hospital grounds.

On Tuesday afternoon, Avon and Somerset police issued an appeal for people to report sightings of him.

Mr McDonagh has links to Bristol, but also to many places around Britain and in Ireland.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police said: "The 26-year-old is wanted in connection with an aggravated burglary and for escaping lawful custody.

"McDonagh is white, 6ft tall and of large build.

"He has an Irish accent and has tattoos on his right arm of the Virgin Mary and the name Callum."

"Anyone who sees McDonagh is asked to call 999 and provide the call handler with the reference 5219153251.

"Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call 101 quoting the same reference."
