Arrest warrant after car shooter skips court

Wanted: Tyra Allen, 22, had a warrant issued for her arrest in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.

Another arrest warrant has been issued in court for a Hunter woman convicted of using a sawn-off shotgun to shoot a car belonging to her ex-partner's rival in the Coalfields in 2019.

Magistrate Janine Lacy issued the warrant for the arrest of Tyra Allen in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday, after the 22-year-old again failed to show-up for a scheduled court appearance.

The court heard that Allen had not been reporting to police or living at the address agreed upon as part of her bail conditions. Legal Aid formally withdrew from her matter on Wednesday.

She was initially called to the courtroom at the beginning of the sitting day - 9.30am - and Magistrate Lacy waited until 11.30am before having her called again and issuing the warrant when she failed to appear in the courtroom.

An initial arrest warrant was issued for Allen by Magistrate Robert Stone last December.

According to an agreed statement of facts tendered to the court, Allen was asked by a man with whom she had had a relationship to "shoot-up" the victim's home at Neath. The statement of facts noted that Allen's acquaintance provided her with a sawn-off shotgun and drove her to the victim's home.

She got out of the acquaintance's car and approached the victims' Holden Commodore. Allen shot the vehicle from close range, smashing the front and rear windows and leaving indentations in the door.

She then got into the car driven by the acquaintance and left the scene, but the pair abandoned the vehicle at a Neath service station after they got a flat tyre making their getaway.

Detectives went to a home at Cardiff last January to speak to Allen about the shooting and she made admissions about being responsible, telling police the shooting was related to an ongoing feud between her ex-partner and the victim.

She was charged and last January pleaded guilty to firing a firearm into a building or inclosed lands after the DPP agreed to withdraw the more serious charges. Allen was convicted in her absence in March, when she failed to appear in court for sentencing and a second arrest warrant was issued.
