Arrest of suspected drink-driver after cars damaged in Bangor

Seven vehicles have been damaged by a suspected drink-driver in Co Down .

The vehicles, including at least one work van, were hit on the Clandeboye Road, Bangor , at around 5am on Tuesday.

A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said his vehicle had been "smashed" up.

Local DUP councillor Jennifer Gilmour condemned the incident.

She told Belfast Live: "It is absolutely ridiculous this has happened.

"It is bad enough it happened during the night, but it doesn't bear thinking about the devastation that could have been caused if it had happened during the day.

"It is a busy road with a play park on it and a lot of schools nearby.

"I welcome the news a man has been arrested in connection with the incident."

Alliance councillor Connie Egan added: "I am relieved no one was injured in this incident and I hope the damage to cars is not substantial."

Sgt Getty said: “A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol in breath and dangerous driving. He remains in custody at this time."
