Arrest made in stabbing death of newly-engaged D.C. jogger

Police in Washington, D.C., have reportedly made an arrest in the murder of a 35-year-old jogger, who was killed during a run in her upscale neighborhood a week after she became engaged.

Wendy Martinez was stabbed multiple times in Logan Circle Tuesday night in what authorities believe to be a random attack. She managed to flee and was captured on surveillance video staggering into a nearby takeout restaurant, covered in blood. Responders transported her to a nearby hospital where she died from her injuries a short time later, said D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham.

The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was taken into custody Wednesday night, sources told NBC News 4.

Martinez, the Chief of Staff at a D.C.-based software company called FiscalNote, was remembered as an "invaluable" employee and a "vibrant member of the community."

"The entire FiscalNote family is shocked and deeply saddened to learn that Wendy Martinez, our Chief of Staff, was killed last night," the company tweeted.

Her family described Martinez as the "light of our lives" and an "avid runner" as well as "a devout Christian, a wonderful friend, and a driven professional."
