Arrest made in connection with alleged hit and run in Blantyre

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged hit and run crash that left a cyclist with serious injuries.

Police Scotland confirmed a 34-year-old man had been arrested after weeks of appeals to trace the driver of a car believed to be involved in the collision.

The incident is said to have happened on Spittal Terrace, Blantyre, on April 24.

That left Mark Richards bleeding at the side of the road and with spinal fractures.

The 50-year-old now needs to wear a back brace, which he is expected to be in for at least three months.

The active dad-of-two was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries at the time.

Police confirmed that a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
