Arrest made by cops in Clydebank investigating serious sex attack on woman in lane

A 21-year-old man has been arrested after a 23-year-old woman was seriously sexually assaulted in Clydebank.

Police are appealing to anyone with information after the woman was attacked on August 1 in a lane off Alexander Street in the town, across from a café.

The incident happened between 1.15am and 1.45am on Saturday.

A 21-year-old male was subsequently arrested however police are still keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed anything around the time of the incident.

Detective Inspector Scott Hamilton, of Clydebank Police Office, said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened but we believe this was an isolated incident.

“We are eager to trace a couple who were seen in the area at the time.

"They were both dressed in black and the woman had blonde hair.

"We believe they may have vital information that will help with our investigation.

“Anyone else who can help with our enquiries is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 2496 of Sunday, 2 August, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
