Arrest made after man seen 'brandishing a knife' on busy major road

An arrest has been made after a man was seen 'brandishing a knife' on a busy major road in Trafford. Police rushed to the scene in Chester Road, Stretford, after the anonymous call came in.

A man matching the description of the tip was arrested after 'several' officers descended on Chester Road this afternoon. Eyewitnesses say the road was closed as police carried out the arrest.

In a tweet, Greater Manchester Police's Stretford unit said: "Anonymous call stating male seen brandishing a knife on Chester Road, Stretford. Several of us make to the area and arrest a male matching the description near to Stretford House. Enquiries ongoing."

The force has also confirmed that the arrest happened at around 12.30pm, and that the man was arrested on suspicion of possession a bladed article and affray.
