Arrest in Clydebank after reports of suspicious package sparked train station closure and evacuations

A 44-year-old has been arrested and charged following an incident in Clydebank today.

Cops and bomb squad teams raced to Kilbowie Road, near Singer train station, around 12.15pm today.

Part of the main road was cordoned off as the train station was closed and local buildings were evacuated following reports of a suspicious package being found.

A man is due to appear in court tomorrow in connection with the incident.

The train station later reopened after there was found to be no risk to the wider public.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said:"Officers were called around 12.15pm to Kilbowie Street, Clydebank, following reports of a suspicious package.

"Emergency services, including EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), attended, enquiries were carried out and there was found to be no risk to the public.

"Nearby buildings were evacuated and the local train station was closed as a precaution, but later reopened.

"A 44-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

"He is due to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday, 19 March, 2021."
