Arrest at Trafford Centre after man spits at security and attacks shoppers

A man was arrested at the Trafford Centre after spitting at security staff and attacking shoppers.

Police were called by the shopping centre security to the shocking incident yesterday (Tuesday).

The 'aggressive' male had been detained by staff after spitting at members of security and attacking members of the public, police said.

Officers arrested him on suspicion of three counts of assault and one count of criminal damage.

He was also arrested for one count of racially-aggravated assault.

The man remains in custody today where he is being quizzed by detectives.

In a post on the GMP Trafford Facebook page, an officer wrote: "#Arrest A 20 year old male has been arrested on suspicion of 3 counts of assault, 1 count of racially aggravated assault and 1 count of criminal damage at the Trafford Centre on Tuesday 31st August 2021.

"Police were called by Trafford Centre security shortly before 6pm to reports of an aggressive male being detained by security on the shopping mall who had allegedly been assaulting and spitting at security staff and members of the public.

"Officers from B Relief Response Team responded quickly and assisted security in detaining the male who was arrested and remains in custody for questioning."
