Arrest after 'suspect package' sent to Oxford/AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine plant

A man has been arrested in Kent in connection with a suspicious package that was sent to a Wrexham coronavirus vaccine plant yesterday.

North Wales Police said in a post on Facebook: "Our colleagues at Kent Police have detained a man after a suspicious package was sent to the Wockhardt production facility in Wrexham.

"The suspicious package was received at the facility, on the Wrexham Industrial Estate, on the morning of Wednesday 27 January 2021.

"As part of ongoing enquiries, which are being carried out by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, pre-planned warrants took place at addresses in Luton Road and Chatham Hill, Chatham, on the morning of Thursday 28 January.

"A 53-year-old man from Chatham has been arrested on suspicion of sending the package and remains in custody as enquiries continue.

"There is no evidence to suggest there is an ongoing threat."

The arrested man has not been identified.

Police and a bomb disposal unit were called to the incident at the plant - which is being used to help produce the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.
