Arrest after Scots 'puppy farm' raids and 80 animals seized

Police Scotland have confirmed that at least one person has been arrested for animal welfare offences after raids were carried out on two suspected puppy farms in East Ayrshire.

A total of 80  animals  including dogs, puppies, cats and kittens were seized from the addresses during a major operation on Friday, November 27.

The news comes as animal welfare charity the Scottish SPCA said it had launched 78 investigations into puppy farming in October alone.

Now a spokesperson for the police has confirmed that one person has been arrested following the incident.

The raids were part of Operation Delphin - a specialist task force set up to catch despicable rogue animal traders.

And cops say action was taken after they received intelligence on low-welfare puppy trade potentially operating in the area.

A spokesperson for the Scottish SPCA confirmed investigations in the area are "ongoing”.

A police spokesperson added that Police Scotland is "absolutely committed" to disrupting those involved in serious and organised crime in Scotland.

They added that anyone with information on crime should contact us by calling 101 or information can be provided anonymously via CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.
