Arrest after police find man armed with knife following fatal dog fight

A 24-year-old man has been arrested after a fight involving two dogs - which left one of them dead.

Police were called to Horne Grove and Cornwallis Road, Wigan, on Sunday (May 2) at around 3pm after reports of a man carrying a knife outside a home in Horne Grove.

Officers found the man with the knife was 'acting aggressively' following an incident earlier that day - which saw two dogs fighting on Cornwallis Road, with one of the dogs dying in the process.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray. He has since been bailed.

A police spokesman said: "At around 3pm on Sunday, May 2, 2021, police were called with a report of a man carrying a knife outside a property on Horne Grove, Wigan.

"Officers attended and initial enquiries established that the man with the knife was acting aggressively following an incident earlier in the day, relating to two dogs fighting on Cornwallis Road, in which one of the dogs sadly died.

"A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and has since been bailed.

"Enquiries continue. No injuries were reported."
