Arrest after moped crashes with police car in West Belfast

A young male has been arrested after a moped crashed with a police car in West Belfast.

Police say they were alerted to reports of a moped being driven 'erratically' around the area of Divis on Saturday evening, September 4.

The driver is reported to have attempted to make off from police, with a young male later being located and arrested for numerous offences.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "At this time West Belfast Local Police Team were on patrol in the area. The driver of the moped lost control of the vehicle and collided with the police vehicle.

"We would like to thank the members of the local community who reported this matter to police. West Belfast Neighbourhood and Local Police Teams are committed to stopping this risk taking behaviour.

"We are reliant on the information that is provided by the community who do not wish to see this behaviour in the area.

"If you have any concerns or issues within your area please contact your local Neighbourhood Team. Thank you."
