Around 65 jobs created after plans for Greggs, Domino's Pizza and Starbucks approved in Stanley

A new Greggs, drive-thru Starbucks and Domino's Pizza are set to open in Stanley.

Planning bosses have given the go-ahead to proposals for the three outlets in the County Durham town.

Almscliffe Properties Ltd lodged plans with Durham County Council to build three new retail units on land near Agnes Street.

The outlets are expected to create 65 jobs, with 14 full-time positions and 51 part-time roles.

In a planning statement by DPP Planning, it states: “The site represents a good opportunity to create usable and accessible commercial space with excellent transport links.

“The proposal comprises the clearance and releveling of the existing site with a new retail development comprising a food retail and a drive-thru coffee restaurant.

“The site layout comprises two separate buildings. One is divided into units one and two and comprises units with floor areas of 1,500 sq ft and 1,000sq ft respectively.

“The buildings are single storey and are configured around a central car park easily accessed from the vehicular site entrance.”

They will be the latest big name brands to open in the town, with McDonald’s, Home Bargains and Aldi all opening stores in recent years.
