Around 5,000 Aer Lingus employees among those compromised by major cyber attack

Around 5,000 Aer Lingus employees have had their personal information compromised in a cyber attack.

The incident has affected a number of global companies that use the MOVEit Transfer software. It recently caused a security issue for payroll provider Zellis which informed Aer Lingus about its staff's personal information being compromised.

Aer Lingus confirmed to RTE that Zellis told them it "experienced a cybersecurity incident, which has resulted in a disclosure of some of our current and former employee data". But they also moved to share that no financial or bank details were compromised in the situation.

Phone numbers were also not affected by the cyber attack. All current employees and some former employees have been impacted and have been informed.

Aer Lingus said the details compromised include employee number, title, name, date of birth, address line 1, email address, start date and end date of employment, and in the majority of cases, PPS/Social Security numbers. Advice has been issued to those affected and a dedicated phone line and email address have been set up.

Other companies affected include British Airways and Boots. The BBC was also impacted via the use of Zellis.
