Around 30 residents evacuated from homes by police as bomb disposal unit called

Around 30 people had to be evacuated from their homes by police who were alerted to a potentially dangerous incident.

Residents were asked to leave their homes in Tudor Close, Newark, on Friday, July 17, after Nottinghamshire Police was told of possible dangerous items in a shed at a property on the street having been found by a metal detecting enthusiast.

A specialist bomb disposal unit attended and removed the items and all residents have now been able to return home.

Chief Inspector Liz Rogers of Nottinghamshire Police said: “I appreciate the disruption that this will have caused and would like to thank the residents for their understanding.

“We don’t take decisions to evacuate homes readily but have to consider the safety of the public as the highest priority when dealing with incidents such as this.”
