Around 100 teens evacuated after suspected arson attack on YMCA centre in Co Down

The PSNI and the Fire Service are investigating a cabin fire at a YMCA site after it destroyed in a suspected arson attack.

About 100 teenagers had to be evacuated from the recreation centre in Co Down.

A fire at the Greenhill YMCA was reported around 7pm on Saturday when a log cabin caught ablaze, Belfast Live reports.

PSNI Sgt McIlveen said: "The fire was at a log cabin, used as a shelter or relaxation-type area.

"Unfortunately, the cabin has been completely destroyed by the fire, which is believed to have been started deliberately.

"Thankfully there are no reports of injuries and no damage to the nearby main property."

Greenhill YMCA is a popular learning and recreational centre used all year round.

The police have appealed for information or witnesses to come forward.
