NEW YORK _ Monday night, with Zack Britton leaving the game with head trainer Steve Donohue and Aroldis Chapman walking around the clubhouse with a large ice wrap on his hand, there was a little concern about the Yankee bullpen heading into the American League Championship Series.
Aaron Boone said Wednesday, however, that both relievers are "good to go" for the American League Championship Series.
"Chapman is fine and I saw Brit today, he came in today to get some work done and he said he's good to go," the Yankee manager said on a conference call Wednesday. "He said if he had to pitch today he would be good to go, felt even better today. It doesn't seem like something he's overly concerned about. He'll throw tomorrow and expect him to be a full go with no issues."
Chapman was hit with a champagne bottle in the clubhouse celebration after the Yankees finished off the Twins in the AL Division Series Monday night. Britton said he jammed his ankle covering first base in Game 3. Postgame, he said he was preoccupied with the injury because it was the same ankle that he had to have surgically reconstructed after blowing out his Achilles tendon in December 2016. He felt it was too important a game to be on the mound thinking about anything other than the hitter he was facing, so he left the game.
