Arnold Schwarzenegger kicked in the back while attending event in South Africa

Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was attacked while on a trip to South Africa.

The former Governor of California was attending the sporting event Arnold Classic Africa when a person kicked him in the back.

The Sandton Chronicle reports that Schwarzenegger was at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa, when the incident occurred.

Schwarzenegger was taking photographs with fans and judging a skipping competition when a man jumped and kicked the 71-year-old.

A video of the attack shows the man being quickly detained, and Schwarzenegger can be seen walking out of the convention centre moments later.

Later that same day (18 May), Schwarzenegger posted a message to Twitter informing his followers that there was "nothing to worry about".

"Thanks for your concerns, but there is nothing to worry about," he wrote.

"I thought I was just jostled by the crowd, which happens a lot. I only realized I was kicked when I saw the video like all of you. I’m just glad the idiot didn’t interrupt my Snapchat."

Schwarzenegger is best known for appearing in blockbusters The Terminator, Predator and Total Recall.

The former bodybuilder, who served as Governor of California between 2003 and 2011, established the Arnold Sports Festival – of which Arnold Classic Africa is part of – in 1989.

Schwarzenegger’s representatives have been contacted for comment by The Independent.
